Joshua Russel won the 1st Christmas Solo Singing Competition (Category 1) at their school, Lifeway Baptist Academy. The competition was held during their school Christmas Program last December 21, 2007. Prior to the final competition, he made it to the elimination round which was held a week earlier.
The competition has 3 categories. Category 1 composes of Nursery, Preparatory, Grades 1 and 2. Category 2 comprises of Grades 3 to 6 while category 3 are for high-schoolers. After the elimination round, those who qualified were given the opportunity to record their piece at a real-life recording studio. The school have produced it’s first Christmas album, promoting and harnessing their student’s talents in singing.
He received a certificate, 500 Pesos cash and a CD containing the recording of his and other contestants renditions. The CD album goes with a title – “Lifeway Baptist Academy, Christmas Special”. It’s quite an achievement!
We are very proud of Joshua being able to go through this kind of competition at his young age. He was very determined, cooperative in practicing his piece – Silver Bells. To him, he was just having fun. To us, we thought it’s a beginning of something he would like to pursue someday. We believe, he’s got a singing talent.
